Working at Height Safety Training

January 2024

Virtu collaborated with Total to develop an immersive safety training program focused on working at height, tailored to the specific needs of the construction industry.

The program began with a thorough analysis of the high-risk scenarios encountered on Total's sites, ensuring the training addressed real-world challenges. Using virtual reality, the training simulated lifelike environments, allowing employees to practice equipment selection, such as choosing the proper harness and other protective gears. The experience included interactive scenarios, such as climbing vertical ladders and securing lanyards, as well as walking across beams while attaching to lifelines to prevent falls.

OA key element of the training is to "shock" trainees who engage in unsafe practices by simulating a fall from scaffolding. The immersive nature of VR creates a realistic and alarming experience, all while keeping trainees physically safe in a controlled environment. This impactful simulation heightens their awareness of potential consequences, leaving a lasting impression that solidify critical safety lessons.

By integrating feedback mechanisms, employees received immediate assessments of their actions, reinforcing proper safety practices. The training also emphasized situational awareness, including hazard identification and decision-making under pressure. This innovative approach not only improved knowledge retention but also fostered a culture of safety by empowering employees to take responsibility for their well-being.

The program's metrics tracking system provided Total with insights into performance dashboard, enabling them to identify areas for continuous improvement. By embedding a practical and engaging training method, Virtu helped Total significantly reduce the risk of workplace accidents, aligning with their commitment to building a robust safety culture. The initiative underscored the importance of proactive safety measures, establishing a benchmark for excellence in construction industry training.
